Student Academic Competition Grants
What this fund supports: This fund offers stipends to help defray the cost of travel for student academic teams to regional, national and international competition. Applications are awarded depending on the availability of funds.
Deadlines: Student Academic Competition Grants are considered every month during the school year, depending on funding being available. Submit by the 1st of the month to be considered that month. We do understand that sometimes teams are given short notice of acceptance into a competition, so D.E.F. will be open to deadline exceptions. Contact us to inquire. Notification is usually within 2 weeks of application.
Important note about payment: DEF funds only through Durango 9-R or a recognized 501(c)3 non-profit entity; we do not send funds to individuals, nor do we pay travel expenses directly to vendors.
Step 1: Inquiry
Every D.E.F. grant begins with an inquiry to D.E.F. to discuss whether your idea/program is a fit with D.E.F. priorities. Review the Student Academic Competition Grants Criteria, then call 970-385-1491 or email 9RFoundation@gmail.com. D.E.F. will not consider a grant request without a preliminary inquiry.
Step 2: Documents
A. Application: D.E.F. application cover sheet (available August 21, 2016).
Click here for Word version. Click here for PDF version.
NOTE: Help us identify your grant by giving it a unique name that describes your program, project or need. Rather than a generic “DEF Grant,” please be specific. Examples: “Riverview Destination Imagination Globals” or “Escalante History Days.”
B. Narrative: Explain your request in 1 page maximum.
Include rationale, supporting research or anecdotal evidence if applicable, number and grade level(s) of students served, desired/expected outcome, and any collaborative efforts. Include information about alternative funding sources, if D.E.F. does not fund the entire request. Especially important: Include information (including revenue projections) about any student-led fundraising.
C. Budget: Include all costs to complete the grant.
Include other revenue sources, with amounts and status (i.e. funded, applied for, etc.).
Submit directly to DEF either electronically or on paper.
Step 4: Confirm with us that you’ve sent it!
Sometimes the best plans… and technology… can go awry. Please let us know directly at 9RFoundation@gmail.com that you have submitted a grant.
Good luck! We look forward to working with you.
