SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS
Awarded by the Brinton Family

Award Amount: $1,000 non-renewable to the student’s choice of school with 4-year Bachelor programs.


Selection: Recipients will be selected by the DEF Scholarship Committee, in conjunction with the Brinton Family.
 

ELIGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible, the student must:

  • Be a female senior swimmer attending Durango High School, Big Picture High School, or Animas High School

  • Swim for the Durango High School Swim Team

  • Exemplify the following qualities:

    • A commitment to the Durango High School Swim Team, both in duration and in attitude

    • Leadership qualities

    • A minimum 3.0 GPA

    • Strong moral character

    • Financial need
       

INDIVIDUAL SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS

  1. A COMPLETE APPLICATION

  2. Current Transcript: 3.0 minimum GPA

    • A complete senior transcript showing sustained GPA may be required before the award is remitted to the student’s choice of college.

  3. Statement of Financial Need:

    • This can simply be an explanation of how the scholarship can help you. Your financial need is not a deciding factor in the selection process and no additional documents are required. 

  4. TWO Letters of Recommendation

    • #1: From an unrelated person speaking to the qualities outlined in the "Eligibility and Requirements" section.

    • #2: From the applicant’s Swim Coach.

  5. #1 College and Career Essay:

    • What are your education and career goals? What makes you passionate about this future path? What have you done so far to pursue these future goals? What will you be doing 1 and 5 years after college graduation? (600 words maximum)

  6. #4 Brinton Family Girls' Swimming Scholarship Essay:

    • How has swimming helped you grow in character and leadership? What has your commitment been to swimming, and how have you given back to the sport? (500 words maximum)
