Available Scholarships

Always 100% Effort – Joe Burtoni Scholarship ($1,000 one time) 

​Open to Animas High School, Big Picture High School and Durango High School seniors. Available to those pursuing 2 or 4-year degrees. 2.5 GPA requirement. No specific major requirement. 

Bill Roberts Memorial Scholarship ($1,500 one time)

Open to Durango High school and Big Picture High School seniors. Available to those pursuing 2 or 4-year degrees. No GPA requirement. Students must be interested in Journalism or Communications related majors.

Brinton Family Girls’ Swimming Scholarship ($1,000 one time)

Open to Animas High School and Durango High School seniors who are leaders on the DHS swim team. Available to those pursuing 4-year degrees.  3.0 GPA requirement. No specific major requirement.

DLM Scholarships 

• DLM Scholarship--Bachelor's Degrees ($12,500 renewable) 
  *Will not be awarded again until 2027 
  ​For DHS and Big Picture Applicants attending 4-Year colleges and pursuing majors in STEM, business, medical, or education in a Four Corners or a Western Undergraduate Exchange School. 2.5 GPA requirement.​

• DLM Scholarship--Associate's Degrees ($5,000 renewable) 
  For DHS and Big Picture Applicants Pursuing Associates or Certificate Programs in a vocational field in the Four Corners or a Western Undergraduate Exchange School. 2.5 GPA requirement.

Durango Coca-Cola Scholarship (2024 amount to be determined)

Open to Durango High School and Big Picture seniors pursuing a 4-year degree in Colorado.  Preference given to those attending Fort Lewis College. 2.75 GPA requirement. No specific major requirement.
 

Elizabeth Testa Memorial School Board Scholarship ($3,000 one time)

Open to Durango High School or Big Picture seniors who are pursuing 2 or 4-year degrees but still have obstacles to overcome. 2.0 GPA requirement. No specific major requirement.

Ems Family Scholarship ($10,000 renewable)
Open to Durango High School or Big Picture High School seniors or former graduates. Open to all types of educational formats. No GPA requirement. No specific degree requirements. 
​

Martin Family “Paving a Pathway” Scholarship (up to $10,000 over 4 years) 
For Durango High School or Big Picture seniors who have had a run-in with law enforcement but have turned their lives around. Students can attend 2 or 4-year programs. No GPA requirement. No specific degree requirement.

Mary Ruth Bowman Boys’ Swimming Scholarship ($1,500 one time)
*Currently not available

Mike Stratton CSU Scholarship (Amount Varies)
Open to Durango High School or Big Picture seniors who plan to attend CSU and study Journalism and Media. Additional details through the CSUSA application. 

Morehart Murphy Regional Auto Center: Automotive Scholarship ($1,000 one time)
For a Durango High School or Big Picture senior pursuing a degree in the automotive industry. Possibility to renew, and also to interview for paid internship work, pending DEF & Donor Approval. 2.0 GPA requirement.

Newbold Family Scholarship ($2,000 one time)
Two scholarships will be awarded to students attending Durango High School or Big Picture and planning to attend  Fort Lewis College. 2.75 GPA requirement. No specific degree requirement.
​

Sachs Construction, LLC Scholarship ($1,000 one time)
Awarded to a Durango High School or Big Picture student pursuing 2 or 4-year degrees who has financial need and obstacles to overcome. Possibility to interview for paid internship work. 2.0 GPA requirement. No specific degree requirement.

Tom & Ann Hartney Scholarship ($1,000 one time)
Open to Durango High School and Big Picture graduating seniors who are pursuing a degree (2 or 4-year) in humanities (see list of specific majors) and are interested in history, social issues, and serving their community. No GPA requirement. ​

Zink Family Scholarship ($2,000 one time)
Open to a Durango High School or Big Picture seniors seeking a degree in teaching, agricultural education, business, medical or nursing fields at both 2 and 4-year programs. No GPA requirements.

 

BY NOMINATION ONLY:

Durango High School Alumni Association | Jeff Kuss Distinguished Student Award ($1,000 one time)
Open by nomination to Durango High School seniors who best demonstrates the essential attributes to be considered “distinguished” among their peers. All students with 3+ nominations will be considered and reviewed by DHS alumni. 
 

Steve A. Torres Scholarship ($2,500 one time)
Open by nomination only to Big Picture High School high school juniors or seniors pursuing innovative educational opportunities who need financial assistance. All students with 1+ nominations will be considered.

Walt Anderson Memorial Scholarship ($1,000 one time)
Awarded by nomination only to an individual directly involved with the DHS football team. All students with 1+ nominations will be considered.
